Fats Navarro: Goin to Minton's (1946-1947)

Bop from one of the prettiest-sounding trumpeters ever, with an all-star cast. Every tune offers revelations. Veers from almost-R&B in spots (on the "Lockjaw" Davis session, as you'd expect) to the elegance of the Dameron-led date. Gorgeous.

Fats Navarro: trumpet
Leo Parker (13-16): alto & baritone saxophones
Sonny Stitt (1-4), Ernie Henry (17-18): alto saxophone
Morris Lane (1-4), Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis (5-12), Charlie Rouse (19-22): tenor saxophone
Ed DeVerteuill (1-4): baritone saxophone
Kenny Dorham (1-4): trumpet
Bud Powell (1-4),
Al Haig (5-12), Tadd Dameron (13-22): piano
Huey Long (guitar)
Al Hall (1-4) Gene Ramey (5-16), Curley Russell (17-18), Nelson Boyd (19-22): bass
Kenny Clarke (1-4), Denzil Best (5-18), Art Blakey (19-22): drums
Gil Fuller: arrangements (1-4)

Dameron and Gil Fuller led the session on tracks 1-4, "Lockjaw" Davis led 5-12, Navarro and Leo Parker led 13-16, Tadd Dameron led 17-18, and Navarro led 19-22.

Thanks for posting the great sounds of the trumpet player who changed my musical life. I got all his records, and I'm never tired of listening to him, the one and only Theodore "Fats" Navarro!

Brilliant sound from a much neglected trumpet player - lined up with an all star cast including some of my all time horn heros (Stitt and Davis). Listen out as well for Kenny Dorham - that guy makes the trumpet speak. Thanks you very much
